Ship engines, transmissions and auto parts

Engines, transmissions, body panels and palletized parts ship like freight: carriers price them on dimensions, weight, quantity and packaging. Tell them whether pieces stack and whether anything is hazardous, and they can quote shared space or a dedicated truck.

Where is it going?

What carriers need from you

These are the fields in the vehicle parts form. Complete answers let carriers bid on the real job instead of padding for unknowns.

Every post also includes

  • Pickup and delivery addresses with date and time windows
  • Extra stops along the route, if any
  • Up to 5 photos and 5 files, such as spec sheets or floor plans
  • Anything else carriers should know, in your own words

Dimensions

  • Length, width and height of each unit in inches
  • Weight in pounds, packaging included
  • Quantity of items

Freight details

  • Stackable: can units go on top of each other
  • Hazardous: chemicals, fuel or anything with a UN number
  • Packaging: crate, pallet, box, or bundle, drum, roll and more

Before pickup

  1. 1

Drain oil, coolant and fuel from engines and transmissions; leftover fluids can make a shipment hazardous or get it refused.

  2. 2

Bolt engines to a pallet or engine shipping stand and stretch-wrap the unit.

  3. 3

Protect painted panels with corner guards and foam, and mark them do-not-stack.

  4. 4

Measure and weigh each unit after packing, pallet included.

  5. 5

Have a forklift or dock at pickup, or ask for a liftgate truck.

Vehicle parts questions

Is a used engine hazardous material?

A drained, clean engine usually ships as regular freight. Batteries, fuel and some fluids can be regulated as hazardous materials, so remove them or mark the shipment hazardous and describe it.

Do I need a pallet?

For engines and transmissions, yes; it lets the unit be lifted by forklift or pallet jack. Smaller parts can ship boxed.

What freight class will my parts be?

Class depends mostly on density: weight divided by cubic feet. Use the freight class calculator for an estimate; carriers confirm it in their bid.

When is the carrier paid?

You pay the accepted bid plus the 10% AllShip service fee, and Stripe holds it in escrow. The carrier is paid after you confirm delivery, or automatically 72 hours after delivery if you have not opened a dispute.
