Powerboat transport

A powerboat on its own trailer can be towed by a carrier with the right truck; one without a trailer rides on a carrier's hydraulic boat trailer. Either way, carriers price on length, beam, height on the trailer and weight, so measure these before you post.

Where is it going?

What carriers need from you

These are the fields in the powerboat form. Complete answers let carriers bid on the real job instead of padding for unknowns.

Every post also includes

  • Pickup and delivery addresses with date and time windows
  • Extra stops along the route, if any
  • Up to 5 photos and 5 files, such as spec sheets or floor plans
  • Anything else carriers should know, in your own words

Dimensions

  • Weight in pounds, with engines and fuel as shipped
  • Overall length in feet, including swim platform and outboard
  • Beam (width) at the widest point
  • Height from the ground on the trailer, to the highest point

Trailer

  • Already on its own trailer or not

Before pickup

  1. 1

Measure overall length, beam and height on the trailer, including any T-top, arch, radar or antenna.

  2. 2

If the boat travels on its own trailer, check tires, bearings, lights and tie-down straps.

  3. 3

Drain water, run the fuel low and disconnect the batteries.

  4. 4

Remove or secure canvas, biminis, electronics and loose gear; canvas can tear at highway speed.

  5. 5

Raise and secure the outboard or outdrive in its trailering position.

Powerboat questions

Does a wide boat need a permit?

Boats wider than 8.5 feet usually exceed the standard legal width and need oversize permits, which vary by state; wider loads may also need escort vehicles. Carriers who move oversize boats arrange permits for their route, so check that the cost is in the bid.

My boat has no trailer. Can it still ship?

Yes. Turn off "on trailer" and carriers with hydraulic boat trailers will bid. Plan for a lift or crane at the marina or yard at both ends if the boat is in the water.

Why does height matter so much?

Bridges, overpasses and state height limits decide the route. Lower or remove T-tops, arches and antennas where you can, and give the height with the boat on its trailer.

When is the carrier paid?

You pay the accepted bid plus the 10% AllShip service fee, and Stripe holds it in escrow. The carrier is paid after you confirm delivery, or automatically 72 hours after delivery if you have not opened a dispute.
