Moving

Student moving for dorms and first apartments

A student move is small but tied to a fixed date: move-out day, the end of a lease or the start of the semester. Post your boxes and the few big pieces, pick the date that works with your school and carriers bid on the job, including summer storage if you need it.

Usually priced on
Box count, large items and distance
Timing
Dorm move-in and move-out windows
Plan ahead
Book before end-of-term weeks
Small load of blanket-wrapped items in a truck

Where is it going?

What carriers need from you

These are the fields in the student moving form. Complete answers let carriers bid on the real job instead of padding for unknowns.

Every post also includes

  • Pickup and delivery addresses with date and time windows
  • Extra stops along the route, if any
  • Up to 5 photos and 5 files, such as spec sheets or floor plans
  • Anything else carriers should know, in your own words

The room

  • Type of residence: dormitory, shared apartment, studio or other
  • Size: shared room, studio, 1 or 2 bedrooms
  • Total boxes: 1–5, 6–10, 11–20 or more

Large items and electronics

  • Bed, desk, chair, dresser, bookshelf, mini-fridge, TV
  • Laptop, desktop PC, monitor, gaming console, speakers
  • Fragile items, and whether furniture needs assembly or disassembly

Extras

  • Packing and unpacking
  • Temporary storage
  • Moving supplies
  • Help with heavy lifting
  • Last-minute or emergency move

Before pickup

  1. 1

Check move-in and move-out windows with your housing office; many dorms assign time slots and limit where trucks can park.

  2. 2

Count boxes honestly. The box count is how carriers size the vehicle.

  3. 3

Pack electronics in their original boxes if you kept them, or wrap them in clothes and towels.

  4. 4

Defrost and dry the mini-fridge at least a day before pickup.

  5. 5

Moving with roommates to the same place? Post one job with everyone's items.

How booking and payment work

  1. Today, about 3 minutes

    You post the load

Route, dates and what is moving. Free, and you can edit it until you book.

  2. Usually within hours

    Verified carriers bid

Each bid shows the carrier's price, dates, FMCSA status and reviews. Ask questions in chat first.

  3. When you choose

    Accept and pay into escrow

You pay the bid plus the 10% service fee. Stripe holds it; the carrier is not paid yet.

  4. On the day

    Follow the trip

The driver starts the trip, confirms pickup with photos and shares a live location.

  5. After delivery

Confirm, then the carrier is paid

Delivery comes with photos and a signature. Confirm it, or it auto-confirms after 72 hours with no dispute.

What you pay, line by line

No subscription, no posting fee, no deposit to see bids. The price is the bid you accept plus our fee, and the carrier keeps 100% of the bid.

Student moving questions

Can my things go into storage over the summer?

Yes. Turn on temporary storage and say how long you need it. Carriers include storage in their bid or tell you their monthly rate in chat.

Can a parent book and pay for the move?

Yes. Whoever creates the post pays into escrow. Add the student's contact details in the notes so the carrier can coordinate on the day.

What if I need to move at the last minute?

Turn on last-minute move so carriers know the timing. Fewer carriers may be free on short notice, so post as soon as you know the date.

When is the carrier paid?

You pay the accepted bid plus the 10% AllShip service fee, and Stripe holds it in escrow. The carrier is paid after you confirm delivery, or automatically 72 hours after delivery if you have not opened a dispute.
